The Kirsop Farm News

Week 1

June 06, 2007

Welcome to a new season and your share in the farm’s bounty. We are so pleased to be harvesting for all of you this week. We always start small and rapidly increase the harvest. We have taken great care to handle your vegetables well, leaving any unsavory bits behind in the field, and washing every one. After a long winter of supermarket veggies, these greens will taste like the food of the gods.

Nigel is the littlest farmer here, he’s six and his brother Jonas is twelve, and the work that they do most often is amuse one another so that mom and dad, Colin and Genine, can get the farming done. Each of them will occasionally help out with a special task, but generally, they are busy being kids, and that’s ok with us. Nigel helped me plant a special plot of dry beans today, and Jonas dug some holes for my favorite tomato plants, Aunt Ruby’s Green.

You can stir fry baby bok choi and serve with rice and soy sauce. You can steam it lightly, or eat it raw. When encountering a new veggie in your share, it’s a good idea to taste a bit of it raw, and if you like it, that’s as far as you need to go. Salad can include a great many things.

What’s in the box?
