Fennel the kitten is still here, cuddling with Pavo the kitten and wrestling and pouncing and purring. Lily hasn’t said anything about taking him back lately. And we now have a cute little dog named coconut visiting with the Santa Rosa Barricklows. Colin’s brother Todd Barricklow has been preparing the Combine and helping Colin to harvest some cover crop seed that we grew at field two. Todd’s wife Spring jumped in to help at market on Sunday when we were unexpectedly allowed to use an extra table to sell for the day. It was great to have more space, but we needed another person to pull it off. Have you been to market on Sunday lately? It is almost twice as busy as Saturday or any other day! My two nieces are so delightful and did help pack some CSA shares this week. We also have the Northridge Barricklows visiting this week. Colin’s mom, Jeri Barricklow has completely taken over my greenhouse plant watering duties, and is making great progress in the tomato pruning area. Grandpa Ted has been a great resource for Spanish language pointers and music lessons. If we seem a little distracted lately, it’s because we are having a great big family party!

Several reservations for Thanksgiving turkeys have come in lately and that reminds me to remind you that if you would like one, sooner is better for reserving one. I’d hate for you to wait too long and then be disappointed. We also have plenty of chickens available to reserve for our next harvest date, Sept. 19. I have been missing those chickens lately. A few weeks prior to the last harvest date, I developed an allergy to the chickens. I was enjoying my morning chicken chores until one day they made me sneeze. And then I would just keep on sneezing through the whole time and end up feeling sick and tired after that. We decided it wasn’t worth it for me to continue. So I feel fine now, but miss the morning commune with the flocks. The next thing that happened was that Colin felt a little overwhelmed doing it all by himself. We considered asking one of the kids to help, but they don’t usually wake up so early. YOBO to the rescue! YOBO is a Korean word that means spouse, like dear wife, or darn husband, depending on who is saying it to whom under what circumstances. Martin Lee is our friend who lives here with us, and his Korean parents used to call each other YOBO, and so we carry on the tradition. So now it’s team YOBO caring for the poultry, sans Genine.

Our friend Erica Lenker called to see if we wanted to buy some lamb, and we had to decline because we always buy a few lambs from another friend, but I wonder if some of you might like to buy them? She has two 60 lb. Organic, grass fed lambs available. The cost is 8/lb. Plus cut and wrap which is 57/lamb. People generally buy a half or whole lamb. If interested, send her an email at ericalenker73@comcast.net.

Green Beans are available at bulk prices for CSA members. 15 pounds for 20.00. Call the farm to order. 352-3590.
