CSA Begins Soon

May 14, 2008

Welcome to the 2008 CSA season. We are pleased that you have chosen to support Kirsop Farm through your CSA membership. CSA deliveries begin the week of May 21. Our goal is to provide you with the freshest and tastiest certified organic produce in town. All of our produce is hand picked and washed early in the day and chilled in our cooler the day before your pick up.
We are excited about the new season with you and look forward to putting good food in your bellies!

Answers to the most commonly asked CSA questions:

Where do I pick up my box?
The way it works is that you select one of our locations and that is the place you go to pick up your share each week. There are seven options, but you pick one and stick with it. The Wednesday afternoon pick up time is between four and eight pm.
The Wednesday West Olympia location is Erica’s house on the corner of Giles and Thomas, the address is 805 Thomas ST. NW, and her phone number is 709-0704.
The Wednesday East Olympia location is Lynn’s house at 2042 Bethel St NE, 357-5234.
The Wednesday evening Tumwater location is here at the Kirsop Farm, 6136 Kirsop Rd. SW, 352-3590.
New this year is the Tumwater Farmer’s Market Wednesday pick up location, at the corner of Capitol Blvd. And Israel Rd. between 11-2.
On Thursday, you may pick up a share at the Olympia Farmers Market between 9-3.
On Sunday you may pick up at the Olympia Farmers Market between 9-3, or here at the Farm between 9-3.

What do I do if I can’t pick up my box on time?
We all have experience running late and forgetting lots of things. We understand. Just call your location and ask them to keep it for you, or call the farm. We will try to work something out for you. Boxes not picked up will be donated to the food bank if you don’t call to make another arrangement. If you are unable to pick up your box during the scheduled time, our first preference is that you have a friend or neighbor get it for you. This would be the thing to do if you know that you will be on vacation or otherwise unavailable.
What do I do with all the empty boxes?
Please return clean CSA boxes to your pick up site the following week, as we will reuse them. It helps if you leave them whole, rather than breaking them down.
How long is the CSA season going to last?
We plan to harvest and deliver for CSA through the end of October.

What is JOI CHOI, and what do I do with it?
Along with your box each week you will receive the farm newsletter. The newsletter contains a harvest list of what you will find inside your share that week, and recipes for the more unusual items. Joi Choi is one of four asian greens we grow, all of which are great in stir fry, eaten raw, or in salad, or lightly steamed.
How do I get to the farm?
Here are the easiest directions. Take exit 102 from I-5. Turn west onto Trosper Rd. Travel past Mega Foods about one mile and turn left onto Kirsop Rd. Take you first right turn, still Kirsop Rd, at the cow pasture. The road bends about in an S-curve after which we are the third place on the left. Please call ahead if you’d like to visit, we love to share our beautiful farm with you.
How do I pay for my share?
Our favorite thing is to get the full payment in one check in January. Second best is half now, half later. After that, a 100.00 deposit, followed by four equal payments of 100.00. But really, whatever works for you and your budget is fine with us, as long as you tell us your plan and stick to it.
Do you offer any other products?
Why yes, yes we do. This is our first year offering meat chickens for sale. Chicken harvest days are planned for June 30 and September 30. Stay tuned for more details to come in future newsletters. If you already requested a bird or two or ten, we have reserved them for you. We still have 60 more birds available for the June harvest date, and 180 more for the September date. If you are interested call us.
Thank you ever so much for partnering with us for another fruitful season.
