The Kirsop Farm News

WEEK 13

August 13, 2008

Last week’s CSA shares were packed by Farmer Colin and his mom, visiting from California. We have been thoroughly enjoying a visit from the family, and that is why last week you got a distracted sort of plagiarized from a couple of cookbooks type of newsletter.
Normally the CSA shares would be boxed by our work trade volunteers Ciara and Nate, but they were both sick, so Colin got the chance and loved it. We are so proud of our produce, it is a great joy to wash and pack and assemble the CSA shares especially because it is like making gift boxes for each of you. If you are not planning to hitch-hike around the US or Europe next summer and can make yourself available every Wednesday Morning, you could be our next year’s box makers. Call the farm if you want to talk about that.

In addition to everything else we normally get done around here, last week we were carefully assembling a very important order for a catering company. Turns out the Governor’s daughter wanted local organic produce to be served at her wedding reception, and someone recommended Kirsop Farm. What an honor. We are also honored to supply some produce to several restaurants in town. If you want to go out to dinner and have the best salads in town, try the Fishbowl, Water Street Café, Aqua Via, The Mark, or Italia. Our farm also sells certain items at the Olympia Food Coop, Ralph’s, and Bayview. And in the fall, we deliver potatoes, salad, and squash to the Olympia school district main kitchen, where they prepare it and send it out to several of their schools.

Important News about kitty cats on the farm: we decided to keep all four of them. I’m so sorry to tease you by offering them last week, it seemed reasonable at the time, but since then, the children have named them all, some of them even got two names. They really arrived just in the nick of time, because when the family left, the cousins left and Nigel had no one left to play with, but lucky him, he has four new kitty cat playmates.

Our next chicken harvest date is August 25. This is the next, last and only one for this year. I had scheduled another one, but we decided to quit while we’re ahead, sort-of. There are about 75 chickens available to reserve. The cost is five dollars per pound and we weigh them when you get here between five and seven pm on the 25th, a Monday. These are top notch delicious pasture raised poultry fed only organic grains and our own grass and bugs. Chicken doesn’t get much cleaner than this. Call or email the farm to reserve yours today.
