Kirsop Farm has been growing vegetables for almost 20 years, and though we’ve always enjoyed flowers on our own, we are in our 2nd season of the CSA flower share. Just like our vegetable share-but with flowers-you will receive one 15-20 stem bunch of flowers for 10 weeks. A flower share can be purchased alone or in addition to a vegetable share, but either way they are available for pick-up at all of our regular CSA pick up locations.
The majority of flowers available to consumers are grown in South America using pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides and then shipped long distances. Our flowers are grown in a way that is healthy for the soil, the bees, and our employees. And because we are distributing them locally, we pick them just prior to their peak moments of beauty, so that they can soak up as much sun as possible before gracing your tabletops.
When deciding which seeds to plant for the flower shares, we select ‘cut flower’ varieties, types designed to end up in a vase in your home. Our shares will include such flowers as: Sunflowers and Calendula of all different shades and sizes, Pincushion Flowers, Zinnia, Globe Amaranth, Statice, Strawflowers, Celosia, Sweet Peas, Tall Snapdragons, Flowering Herbs, and more! The bunches can be divided into smaller bunches around your home, or just kept as is in one bunch. Some types can be dried to work into craft projects, or just displayed all year-round.
