Assistant Production Manager

Kirsop Farm 2019

  • Full Time: 40-50 hours per week peak season April -July

  • Permanent Position: Beginning Jan 2019, 2+ years desired

  • Schedule: Work days are generally Monday-Friday, with some weekends April – June. Winter
    vacation time of up to 2 months is negotiable.

    We are looking for a motivated, problem solving oriented individual to join our production team
    to operate equipment, trouble-shoot problems, and maintain and repair equipment and
    facilities. You will work independently to keep our vehicles and equipment in top shape, and
    with the production team to implement the farm’s production plans in the field, primarily
    focused on weed control.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field tractor work using a variety of equipment and implements.

  • Perform routine vehicle, equipment and facilities maintenance.

  • Act as a handy-person on the farm; repairing, improving, and building things as needed.

  • Perform a variety of in-field tractor work.

  • Communicate with farm owner to discuss tractor work, equipment and repair issues, etc., as
    well as communicate by cell phone throughout the work day.

Background and skills

  • Practical experience and knowledge of vegetable growing systems, ability to understand field production processes for organic crops, ability to understand detailed farm plans.

  • Mechanical experience, ability to problem solve, and think creatively, using resources on hand and common sense.

  • Knowledge and skill in welding and fabrication.

  • Strong communication skills

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and situations

  • Ability to work independently, primarily, while also being part of a team.

  • Must be extremely responsible, self-motivated and capable of handling complex instructions.

Compensation

  • Starting pay: $16-20/HR based on experience.

Field Crew Member

Part and Full time positions available

Pay: up to $12 per hour
Hours: May – November, 5 days a week, approximately 10 hours/day

Duties

Include, but are not limited to:

  • Harvesting

  • Weeding

  • Transplanting

  • Cleaning wash station and market totes

  • Moving and laying out floating row cover

  • Packing CSA boxes

May also participate in:

  • Assisting Wash Station Lead washing and packing vegetables

  • Assisting in irrigation installation

  • Driving a CSA delivery route

Safety and Security

  • Uses safe working techniques, i.e. lifting, moving, etc.

  • Uses safe tool handling techniques as per instructions

  • Follows farm food safety rules

Required Skills

  • Able to lift 40lbs, and enjoy physical labor

  • Enjoys working hard outdoors in all types of weather

  • Able to receive constructive criticism.

  • Understands the importance of following procedure and sticking with the system in place

  • Works well independently

  • Can keep focused on a task

  • Able to take written and verbal direction well
